What are embiggen days?

“You know how some pictures on oppo are small and some are big? You know how the big ones are usually on posts that are really cool? This is not an accident

I know, right? Yeah, we mods decide which images get the treatment and while we like doing it, we don’t get to do it as often as we like, as a result Oppo looks like some kind of photo booth picture roll with the occasional IMAX experience thrown in for good measure. Wouldn’t it be cool if more stories were more bigger? I think so.”

“Here’s what I’m thinking, On Feb 13, 14th and 15th, post your best content! Content that deserves an embiggening and make Oppo great again remember how awesome Oppo is.

As you probably have guessed, this isn’t so much about us just deciding to make the pictures bigger, its a challenge to product content that’s worth embiggening. I think there are a lot of great things Oppo does, but one thing it used to do really well, but not as much of lately is produce really front page worthy content.

A researched topic on tech

A photo or shoot with a story that takes a little work

Anything cool you’ve thought about writing about but have been putting off.

I think we lost a lot of great content on kinja lately and I think it would be cool to see more of it.”

That sounds good, but embiggening too much defeats the purpose. I mostly enjoy creating posts that take some effort, but I rarely get the views to support keeping on doing it; this could help bring attention to some of the lesser known contributers: some are new (like me) and others don’t post often enough to get the same kind of recognition as big names.

The whole point of embiggen days is concentrate eyeballs on good writing.  It’s also a challenge to write the stuff you might not have normally written.

I never got many views on my larger posts so I had taken to the idea of splitting them up (with my Carspotting in the Past and DIOCCUSA thing). Seems I might have to dust off the old keyboard after all.

So reposts are discouraged unless it is really good and really overlooked?

Mr. HammerheadFistpunch sir, How does one go about being ungreyed in this fine place? I would very much like to join in on Oppo discussions. As far as content goes I can provide automobile ramblings, tractor activities, classic tractor frustrations, historical fun facts and D.I.Why? “Hey come laugh at this guy” tales.

I have lurked since the days of Oppo being on Jalopnik’s front page but never saw the value in FP commenting. I do, however, see the community that is Oppo and would like in, especially before any major changes happen regarding Kinja and migration occurs

I watched that episode of the Simpsons by complete chance the other day, it’d been years since I’d seen a whole episode. Pretty good overall but utterly predictable, because I’ve seen about a million Simpsons by now. Plenty of good one-liners though, as usual.

I t’s all relative. When you’re 4 years old, a year is a quarter of your entire freaking existence and therefore feels like a long time. When you’re older, a year is a much tinier slice of the pie of life and goes by faster.

I think part of the reason why we dont see a lot of ‘FP’ stuff any more is because the FP was stealing the content and not crediting people for it.

With our split from the FP, less sh a res, ppl stopped writing a lot of it.

it was complicated but these are the main reasons

1. people lied about things they did and got them published which pissed off GM

2. They did what you said and just took without asking or crediting

3. They stopped buying good stories.

That being said, there is no reason NOT to write good content, there just needs to be a reason.  Im hoping this is enough reason for enough people.

I just got busy with life and fun writing kinda fell off a cliff. I think the last bit that i did for enjoy men were those short stories.

Maybe I should get back into it and pitch it as a blog for work or something.

Wasn’t there also an issue with people going back and changing what they said? Even now I can go back and edit a post from 5+ years ago. I recall having that discussion with George or Stef awhile back that it was a big issue

IIRC r ight around the end of OPPO post to the FP, the 15 minute edit was added to comments. Maybe that should be done with posts?
